After some short battling Oden begs Whitebeard to be allowed the chance to join his crew, to which Whitebeard denies due to concerns about Oden's character. Whitebeard's crew leave at night to avoid Oden's advances but he catches up anyway, attaching a chain to the ship and riding with Izo through the ocean. Marco the Phoenix saves Izo and brings him onto the Moby Dick where he is tied up. Whitebeard tells Oden that if he holds on for three days. He can join the crew.

Three days have passed and Oden only has an hour left before he can join the crew. However, after hearing the screams of Amatsuki Toki Oden fails the challenge, letting go of the chain to save her life.

Right after Kawamatsu finds Inuarashi and Nekomamushi at Kuri Beach, a villager sneaks up from behind him and knocks him out. When saving Kawamatsu, Inuarashi, and Nekomamushi, Oden throws the giant fish he caught at the oppressors. After Nekomamushi spilled the oden pot, Kin'emon was going to lash out at him. The flashback scene of Inuarashi and Nekomamushi traveling the sea on a small boat is not shown. When Oden visits the Flower Capital, the stitched-up Mountain God is not seen.
